IVF in developing countries

Dr Venkat, Director of the Harley Street Clinic, comments on data presented at the European Society of Human Reproduction and Embryology Conference (ESHRE):

“Although in its early stages, this Belgium study has shown some very encouraging and interesting results which offer the potential to bring fertility treatment to families in the third world. Access to advanced medical therapies such as fertility treatment is limited in developing countries and awareness of such issues is relatively low. So, the prospect of being able to help couples with fertility issues at a greatly reduced cost via this pioneering technique is to be applauded.”

“However, as the researchers conclude, the technique cannot completely replace conventional IVF. The fertility treatments now available in the UK are some of the most advanced in the world and offer patients personalised care, with high success rates for even complex cases. ”
