New Year’s the time to have a fertility MOT

Ringing in the New Year encourages many people to actively improve their health and make better life decisions for the future.  Like most places in the world, Britain is not immune to fertility problems, and recent statistics show that 1 in 6 couples in the UK have difficulty in conceiving - that’s over 3.5 million people.[1]

So, if you’re thinking of having children in the future, now is the time to start actively having check- ups, so that when the time is right to have a baby, you have a clear idea of your fertility health and whether there are any potential issues.

Being on medication, such as the contraceptive pill, can mask a number of hormonal imbalances including PCOS (polycystic ovarian syndrome), so having a better understanding of your condition will be essential for future family planning.

“The importance and benefits of being aware of your fertility health sooner rather than later cannot be emphasised enough” comments Harley Street Fertility Director Dr Venkat.

She continues; “How fertile you are, is often a good indicator of your general health. Being aware of any changes or irregularities in your body, such as abnormalities in your monthly cycle can be key to finding a solution to difficulties in conceiving.”

There are numerous ways that both men and women can improve their fertility levels these include adopting a healthy attitude and lifestyle by taking regular exercise, eating a nutritionally rich diet, maintaining a healthy weight and being happy. So why wait, make some happy resolutions for 2016!
