Following the success of free consultations at the Harley Street Fertility Clinic in August, the same scheme is being run again this September.
On Saturday 14 and 21 September, the clinic will once again open their doors for complimentary appointments for women who have concerns about their fertility or who would like to know more about the options available to them.
The appointments, which usually cost between £200 and £250, will give patients the opportunity to meet with an experienced doctor to talk over issues and is a starting point for conversations about the future.
During the session, the doctor will look over the patient’s medical history and any existing conditions will be discussed too. Patients are advised to bring details of past treatments to the consultation to give the doctor as much of an overview of the situation as possible.
Weight, height, blood pressure and carbon monoxide levels will be recorded at the meeting as all of these elements can impact fertility.
It might be that the doctor suggests booking a pelvic ultrasound scan and blood tests (there will be a cost for these) and these are arranged between days 2 and 5 of a typical 28-day cycle, so cycles will also be discussed during this initial session.
Ultrasound scans used to assess ovarian reserves by measuring antral follicle count and volume of the ovaries. The health of the uterus and ovaries are explored, and this includes checking for ovarian cysts, uterine fibroids, and polyps which can impact fertility and conception success.
Blood is taken to measure a range of key hormones and the results can be discussed at a free follow-up consultation where suggestions and treatment options will be explored.
Dr. Suvir Venkataraman says, “We were inundated with requests for free appointments earlier in the summer and are delighted to be able to offer these sessions again. We will be open on 14 and 21 September and we’re looking forward to meeting with women to talk over their concerns and seeing what plan of action could work for them in the future.”
