On 15 and 17 August, the Harley Street Fertility Clinic will be offering female patients a free new patient consultation consultation and follow up session.
The appointments, which usually cost between £200 and £250, give patients the opportunity to meet with an experienced doctor and talk about their fertility issues and concerns and are the starting point for conversations about the future.
No two patients are the same, which means that no two consultations or outcomes are the same either, but we are dedicated to ensuring everyone receives the very best care, support, and advice.
Not only are these appointments an opportunity to get to know one another, but the doctor will look over the patient’s medical history and any existing conditions can be discussed too. Patients are advised to bring details of past treatments to the consultation, so their doctor can review during the meeting and this will help give a clearer overview of the situation.
Patients will have their weight, height, blood pressure and carbon monoxide levels taken at the meeting because all of these elements can impact fertility.
We generally suggest that a pelvic ultrasound scan and blood tests are booked at this meeting (these will be charged for) and this is something that is arranged between days 2 and 5 of a typical 28-day cycle, so we will talk about cycles during this session too.
The reason an ultrasound scan is suggested is because it looks at the womb and ovaries and our team can then assess ovarian reserves by measuring antral follicle count and volume of the ovaries. The health of the uterus and ovaries are explored and this includes checking for ovarian cysts, uterine fibroids or polyps which can impact fertility and conception success.
Blood tests are done because they measure a range of key hormones and the results will be discussed at a free follow-up consultation. It is at this stage we can discuss that the tests and scans have shown and look at whether lifestyle changes (such as weight loss) may help increase the chance of conceiving naturally, but if it is thought assistance is needed, these options will be explained.
Dr. Suvir Venkataraman says, “We are seeing more and more women at the clinic who are looking for a check-up so they can decide on their next steps when it comes to having a baby or preparing for the future. Some women come to us because they are having problems conceiving and our fertility check-ups help us to see why that might be and how we can help change this. For others they are busy building their careers and maybe haven’t found the right partner to have a child with, and are considering freezing their eggs for the future, again this is an option we can advise on and assist with. We are giving women the chance to schedule a free initial appointment on the 15 and 17 August and look forward to welcoming them to the clinic so they can explore their fertility health and discuss ideas for the future.”
