This Movember, Harley Street Fertility Clinic are raising awareness and support for male testicular cancer, something that can go on to affect male fertility.

Movember is a charity that aims to bring awareness to all elements of men’s health, and they encourage people to raise money to help support their research. From growing a moustache, to ‘Move for Movember’, there are lots of ways to be involved.

“Testicular cancer strikes young. It’s the most common cancer in young UK men!”

Signs of testicular cancer (NHS 2022)

Signs and symptoms of testicular cancer can include:

- Painless swelling or lump in 1 of the testicles;

- Changes in the shape or texture of testicles;

- An increase in the firmness of a testicle;

- Difference in appearance between 1 testicle and the other;

- A dull ache or sharp pain in your testicle or scrotum, which may come and go;

- A feeling of heaviness in your scrotum.

The swelling or lump can be about the size of a pea, but can be larger.

Most lumps or swellings in the scrotum are not in the testicle and are not a sign of cancer, but they should never be ignored.

How can testicular cancer affect fertility?

Fortunately, for men who were fertile before diagnosis, most are still able to go on to father a child. Advances in medical treatment and research mean that different options are available to preserve a man’s fertility.

This year, Movember.com, have featured a story about Adam - a testicular cancer survivor. He is thriving in life and finishes his interview with the happy news that he and his wife are expecting their first child.

“Three years after diagnosis, I’m enjoying my first year of marriage, realising my dream of becoming a firefighter and expecting my first child”. Adam’s Story
