IVF is a fantastic achievement of modern medicine and science. Those five million babies would not have been born were it not for this treatment and all their parents would remain childless.We of course encourage the systematic review and study of the effects of any clinical treatment on patients and the general population – it is the ethical duty of all doctors, medical and scientific teams to ensure that the treatments they offer do not cause harm to their patients, whether in the short or long term. However, we do not feel it is constructive to make broad statements that are not based on peer reviewed evidence because this can unnecessarily worry the general public.
