Celebrities are humans…

Last week we were saddened to hear about Chrissy Teigen and John Legend’s tragic story about the loss of their baby boy. As well as a short statement, John and Chrissy shared images capturing their raw emotions after losing their child. Unfortunately, the way the couple chose to share their news was met with a variety of responses - many of which were rather insensitive.

In light of this, we felt it important to say that, before we judge, we should stop for a moment and think. Chrissy went to hospital pregnant and returned home without a baby. For any couple, this is a deep and personal loss - being in the public eye should not have mitigated any sympathy they received.

We believe that John and Chrissy were incredibly brave to have shared their story to such a wide audience. Opening up and exposing their pain has helped to destigmatise the myth that grieving parents must grieve alone.

To the millions of people who have tragically lost their babies - be that at the beginning or the end of pregnancy - and millions more who are trying desperately to start a pregnancy: we hear you! This is not something you must tackle alone, and if sharing your worries, or losses on social media will help you feel stronger or more at peace, you should do it without a second thought.

As many other grieving parents would, we are sure John and Chrissy will hold on to these pictures and memories of Jack for the rest of their lives, treasuring the brief moments they spent together.

To Chrissy and John, we are so sorry for your loss, and we thank you for being humans.
