What to expect from Harley Street Fertility Clinic

~ Transparency and value for money ~

 

When choosing a fertility clinic, there are many things to consider. What are patients trying to conceive, looking for in a clinic? Beside good success rates, excellent clinical expertise and personalised care, another factor to consider are the prices and IVF packages offered.

 

Pricing for IVF treatment can be confusing and unclear because there are typically many items involved and the cost of some items cannot be known at the outset (e.g. medications). We include everything that is required to complete your treatment cycle (excluding medications).

 

However, other clinics do not always take the same approach. As a result, the price of “IVF treatment” on another clinic’s website, the price might appear cheaper. However, when you add in all the items required to complete the treatment, it can end up costing significantly more.

 

The Competition and Marketing Authority (CMA) has recently published its findings from its review of consumer law compliance in the fertility sector. This follows publication in June 2021 of guidance for fertility clinics on their consumer law obligations.

 

In the findings report that summarises the key findings from the review, there are 4 key areas to consider:

 

 

Price

CMA recommends all clinics to be more transparent about IVF pricing before patients embark on treatment. Clinics should provide clear information about the hidden costs of IVF, e.g. what it is not included in the treatment package such as medication, as well as future costs (e.g. the cost of storing frozen eggs).

 

We are proud of our price transparency and the fact we deliver value for money (we don’t have a lot of extras).

 

Although some IVF packages will seem less expensive, they do have more add-on costs. The table below is extracted from the CMA report:

In the price variation review (pages 41-44), we are clinic C and have the second lowest delta.

 

Success rates

The clinics are advised to remove the incorrect information displayed on their website regarding success rates, exaggerating the clinic’s performance, and removing the so-called “superiority claims”.

 

Treatment add-ons

All the clinics are requested to provide additional information on their website about the treatment add-ons, as well as clear signpost to HFEA website.

 

Contract terms

Patients have statutory rights under consumer law, and this should be adhered to.
