ICSI success using testicular sperm extraction
Mylvaganam, from East London contracted mumps when he was 17 years old. Unbeknown to him, he was left unable to produce sperm and ‘infertile’. “My wife and I had been trying for over ten years to get pregnant when I heard the devastating diagnosis that I due to my illness as I teenager, I was unlikely to father my own child.
I was told that the only option left open to me was to use a sperm donor – something neither myself nor my wife felt comfortable with. But carrying out our own research, we found the Harley Street Fertility Clinic and saw urologist and male infertility expert Mr Muneer. I underwent a treatment process called testicular sperm extraction – a revolutionary technique of extracting sperm from the testicles using a microscope. This was followed by ICSI treatment where a single sperm is injected directly into a woman’s egg.
Fortunately for us, my wife became pregnant on her first attempt and we now have a lovely son. I cannot thank the team at Harley Street Fertility Clinic enough!”
