25 year old Zara has donated her eggs twice in the last two years. Zara says; “I can honestly say that motherhood is one of the most natural joys a woman can ever experience.
We often take the simple things in life for granted and being able to conceive children is one of them.” After witnessing her friends and family experience fertility problems, Zara was determined to help in any way she could. She first learnt about egg donation through a friend and decided to go through the process after researching it in more detail. Zara adds; “Harley Street Fertility Clinic really looked after me and made sure I was comfortable with what I was doing. It’s an amazing feeling to know you’re helping somebody achieve their dream.”
29 year old Danielle had given up all hope of having another child until she explored egg sharing. “I had almost given up hope in having any more children before I had my treatment at Harley Street Fertility Clinic.
My fallopian tubes had been damaged after giving birth to my first child Tia. I love being a mother and desperately wanted Tia to have a brother or sister, but after four heart breaking miscarriages, I honestly believed that I would never have any more children. My friend Emma had donated her eggs and she urged me not to give up and suggested the egg share option. She suggested that this would be finically viable, as well as helping somebody who was also experiencing fertility issues. After my second attempt at IVF, I discovered I was pregnant with twins – I also found out that the lady I had donated to was pregnant. I honestly cannot say the staff and doctors at the Harley Street Fertility Clinic enough. For a long time I thought I was a broken woman and they’ve given me back my pride.” Read more about egg sharing on our website here.
One of the treatments offered at the clinic is egg freezing in order to preserve fertility. SB (wishes to remain anonymous) is a 37-year-old who lives in London.
Despite coming out of a long term relationship, she still hopes that one day she will conceive children naturally. “However, I am aware that my fertility is declining,” she said, “I want to conceive naturally but the decision to freeze my eggs now is an investment policy if you like. It gives me a safety net and really takes the pressure off and allows me to have peace of mind.” After hearing about egg freezing, SB decided to visit her GP and was recommended Harley Street Fertility Clinic. She went on to do some further research and attended one of the HSFC monthly open evenings where she spoke to Dr Venkat. She decided to go ahead and had the treatment in November 2014. SB said: “Dr Venkat was wonderful and incredibly helpful. She took me through my whole treatment and set the appointments around my hours of work. I only had to have one day off for the procedure itself. “One of the things that stood out for me about the clinic was that they were not only technically brilliant, but were emotionally supportive as well. They recognised the emotional impact that these treatments can have and addressed it, which I think is sometimes overlooked elsewhere.”
Kelly and her partner had been trying to conceive for three and a half years. They had been to their GP to investigate why they couldn’t have a baby, only to be told that there would be no help available as Kelly already had a 6 year old son with her previous partner.
Kelly said she felt abandoned and wanted someone to look into their condition and to take them seriously. Once she found HSFC, Dr Venkat soon discovered that Kelly’s left ovary was not working properly. Her husband’s sperm was also ‘temperamental’ – sometimes it worked, sometimes it didn’t. Dr Venkat advised the couple to undergo ICSI treatment and happily, the first round was successful. Their baby, Lily-Mae, was born 10 months ago and they couldn’t be happier. More info about ICSI can be found here.
Julie Ann lives in North London with her husband and was desperate to have children but was unable to conceive naturally. Two years ago, she underwent IVF treatment under the NHS, but both attempts were unsuccessful.
The couple had nearly given up all hope, before her husband discovered Harley Street Fertility Clinic online. They had a consultation with Dr Geetha Venkat who spoke to them at length about the range of treatments and options available to them. “She was extremely helpful, open and honest with us,” said Julie, “I decided to take part in egg donation as I really wanted to help someone else too. I know what it feels like not be able to have children and I really wanted to make a difference.” On top of helping others to overcome their fertility issues, the egg sharing option can also save money on your fertility treatment: there is no charge for IVF treatment or the medications required for IVF for egg share donors. The cost of IVF treatments and consultations can often be worryingly expensive and people can be put off by this. The option of egg sharing allows some couples to overcome such worries. “We did get money off our fertility treatment because of egg sharing – I have also done it twice more since. I would highly recommend it to anyone and firmly believe that if you give something, you receive something.” Julie still lives with her husband in North London but now, thanks to successful IVF treatment from Harley Street Fertility Clinic, they have been joined by the arrival of their new little boy. Mylvaganam, from East London contracted mumps when he was 17 years old. Unbeknown to him, he was left unable to produce sperm and ‘infertile’.
“My wife and I had been trying for over ten years to get pregnant when I heard the devastating diagnosis that I due to my illness as I teenager, I was unlikely to father my own child. I was told that the only option left open to me was to use a sperm donor – something neither myself nor my wife felt comfortable with. But carrying out our own research, we found the Harley Street Fertility Clinic and saw urologist and male infertility expert Mr Muneer. I underwent a treatment process calledtesticular sperm extraction – a revolutionary technique of extracting sperm from the testacies using a microscope. This was followed by ICSI treatment where a single sperm is injected directly into a woman’s egg. Fortunately for us, my wife became pregnant on her first attempt and we now have a lovely son. I cannot thank the team at Harley Street Fertility Clinic enough!”
In 2013 Alannah underwent IVF treatment at Harley Street Fertility Clinic and was delighted on the 19th November after going for a scan and discovering a little heartbeat inside her. “I had my 20 week scan and we found out we were going to have a baby boy, and the baby was perfectly healthy too.
I can’t really thank HSFC enough for what they have done for me and my husband, it feels like all our Christmas’s and birthdays have come at once.” On the 27th March 2014, Alannah gave birth to the beautiful baby Austin weighing 9lb 5oz. He is now already 13 months old and growing up fast.
Nicole and Sara have been together for 14 years and decided 8 years ago that they wanted to become parents. After using a sperm donor, Nicole managed to get pregnant but sadly suffered a miscarriage.
After this, she failed to conceive naturally and in 2012, after the couple married, they decided to start IVF treatment at Harley Street Fertility Clinic. The first cycle of IVF was unsuccessful, so they decided to go for a second attempt. This time, the couple fell pregnant but unfortunately Nicole had another miscarriage at just over seven weeks. It was ectopic and Nicole had to have emergency surgery to have the baby and a fallopian tube removed. It was a difficult time and they had to wait three months after the surgery before trying again. The couple went for a third cycle of IVF and Nicole fell pregnant with twin boys, Jamie and Drew. However, after 19 weeks she went into premature labour and tragically lost both the twins in January 2014. Nicole comments; “It was a very hard time and Sara and I were absolutely devastated. But we had been together so long and are such a strong couple that if anything it made us more determined to keep trying.” Later that year in May, they attempted an embryo transfer to try and conceive, but it didn’t work. On their anniversary, 27th August, they decided to try once more and this time Nicole fell pregnant. Nine months later she gave birth to beautiful baby Tyler and she and Sara were absolutely delighted! Nicole says: “I don’t know what we would have done without Dr Venkat and the rest of the team at the Harley Street Fertility Clinic, who were all so supportive and brilliant throughout the whole process. “We couldn’t have done this without all the love and support of our friends and family. Now we can enjoy parenthood!”
32-year-old Denise had always wanted children, despite being told at an early age that this was biologically impossible due to her having Turner Syndrome, which is a genetic condition that affects 1 in 2000 women: these women are missing 1 copy of their X chromosome. Women who suffer from Turner’s syndrome have ovaries that do not work properly.
“My husband and I have been together for almost ten years and for a long time both of us had wanted to start a family. We were refused treatment by the NHS because of my condition and were finding the fertility route a very long and harrowing road. After researching lots of fertility clinics, we discovered Harley Street Fertility Clinic and were impressed by the clinic’s success rate. “From the first appointment, we were delighted by the exceptional, friendly staff, all of whom have supported us all the way. “I became pregnant on my second attempt. I hope to inspire other women who believe their situation is hopeless and encourage them not to give up. It can be really disheartening when some people seem to take having children for granted, however it does make it that much sweeter when it’s your turn!” Denise gave birth to a beautiful baby, Annamaria girl last year.
I had always wanted to be a mother but I didn’t meet my partner Kirsty until I was 36, and it wasn’t until I was 38 that we had decided to think about starting a family. We agreed that I would carry our child, and we contacted the Harley Street Fertility Clinic to discuss our options.
Dr Venkat welcomed us into her clinic but was upfront that it might not be an easy journey, as I had a very low ovarian reserve. Although this was difficult news to come to terms with, Dr Venkat encouraged us to remain positive and we persevered with the treatment. Sadly we had a number of failed attempts and on the 4th round we decided to seek an altruistic egg donor. Because I am Asian I wanted our child to share my heritage. However it was challenging to find a male Asian sperm donor, and we had to look to America to find the right match . We were so hopeful that everything would work this time, but yet again our dreams of starting a family were dashed. However by an amazing stroke of luck, Harley Street Fertility Clinic told us that another female donor had available eggs. My partner was out of the country at the time and it was a big decision to go ahead with treatment initially on my own. But we were both so determined to have a shot at starting a family. Despite the setbacks in this long and sometimes fractious journey, I soon discovered the wonderful news that there was a heartbeat and I went on to have a successful pregnancy. In November 2015 I had a lovely baby boy and we are delighted to have finally become parents. At every step of the way, the team at HSFC were welcoming, supportive and kind. We especially want to thank Dr Venkat for being so honest, realistic and understanding about our situation. In fact, we hope to return in March to try for a sibling for our baby.
We had been trying to start a family for around five years and although there were a lot of difficulties and disappointments, we never lost hope. Going through fertility treatment can be exhausting both physically and emotionally but we were delighted and reassured by the supportive and organised manner in which we were treated by everyone we met at the Harley Street Fertility Clinic.
Due to the intimate and sensitive nature of fertility treatment, we felt it was important to find a clinic where the staff were personable and catered to us as individuals. Dr Venkat and her wonderful team at the Harley Street Fertility Clinic tried very hard to help us, even though our journey was a long one. After a lot of tests and failed cycles, our optimism was beginning to wear. However, when I found out I had fallen pregnant I couldn’t quite believe it was real. Although, we had both been through so much, it wasn’t until I finally became a mother to a beautiful, healthy baby boy (born on 1st January 2016) that it felt “real”. We can safely say that after five years of treatment – and now that we have our gorgeous baby boy – it was all completely worth it and we are so grateful for all the support, advice and care we received from Dr Venkat and the Harley Street Fertility Clinic.
Laura says; “Ever since I can remember I’ve always wanted to be a mother, and although it took some time and we had some difficulties along the way, I am so happy to say that we are finally a family. We are proud mums to two lovely twin girls – Florence and Phoebe.
We’d both been trying for a while but unfortunately in my first round I miscarried which was heart-breaking for both of us. After this experience, Dr Venkat advised and inspired me to change my diet, get healthy and lose weight. Although it was almost two years until we had IVF treatment again, when we returned to the clinic we quickly became pregnant with our girls. I cannot reiterate how much of a difference getting physically fit and healthy had on my general health and life, it made preparing my body for pregnancy a lot easier. Going to a clinic who respected and understood how we wanted to create our family was fantastic and allowed both Sarah and I to be fully involved. I carried Sarah’s eggs so we both felt connected to our babies. The staff team was so supportive of us throughout and after our treatment which made a real difference as going through fertility procedures can be exhausting both physically and emotionally. The best part of the treatment was when I found out we were pregnant at the end of last April, and going to scans, because what seemed like a far flung dream was becoming a reality. Becoming a family and having children has changed our lives. Our dream to be a family is finally real, and we wouldn’t change that for the world.”
Rozie and I wanted to pass on our enormous thanks and gratitude to Dr. Pandian for everything that she did to make our dream a reality.
We couldn’t be more happier with our little family! We would also like to say what a wonderful experience we had at the clinic, the whole process from first appointment to being discharged was so smooth and hassle free, and every member of staff that we met along the way was thoughtful, caring and positive. -Sarah T.
