The latest evidence for Laser Assisted Hatching

There’s no evidence to support the routine use of Laser Assisted Hatching in every cycle, and due to the theoretical risk (<1%) of damage during the procedure, your doctor will only suggest it in select cases. They are:

  • If your embryos are noted to have thickening of the zona by or highly experienced embryological team
  • If you have a history of recurrent implantation failure
  • If you are of an advanced maternal age.

However, there is emerging evidence that for a minority of patients – particularly those with poor prognosis – Laser Assisted Hatching improves the clinical pregnancy rate.
