Dr Verstraete is an experienced Belgian Obstetrician-Gynaecologist with more than 20 years of international experience from Belgium, Germany, Switzerland, the UK and France.

Dr Verstraete undertook Medical studies at the Catholic University of Leuven (KUL), Belgium, followed by specialist training in Belgium and Germany followed by subspecialist training courses in the UK and France.

During her time as a Consultant in Obstetrics and Gynaecology in Oldenburg, Germany, Dr Verstraete had the opportunity to improve her skills in Minimal Access Surgery. She then transferred into another position in a German hospital, where she was responsible for the obstetrics unit. Dr Verstraete subsequently became the clinical lead of the gynaecology unit, where she performed all types of gynaecological operations, including hysteroscopic and laparoscopic procedures.

Dr Verstraete gained valuable experience in all facets of reproductive medicine, including ovarian stimulation, egg collections, embryo transfers, at London Gynaecology and Fertility Centre, UK, under the mentorship of one of the pioneers of IVF: Professor Ian Craft.  Alongside the practical experience and skills, Dr Verstraete gained valuable insight in the psychological aspects of infertility.

Dr Verstraete’s moved to Paris in 2002 and took up a Consultant post in Obstetrics and Gynaecology at the Sorbonne University’s Hospital (Hôpital Tenon, APHP, Paris) where she divided her time between obstetrics and reproductive medicine. In 2011, Dr Verstraete became Head of the Obstetrics department. The hospital is large, with more than 2500 deliveries per year, which deals with a high percentage of high-risk pregnancies, especially due to maternal factors.

During her career, Dr Verstraete has always managed and supervised medical students and specialists in training. Dr Verstraete published a large number of scientific articles in international, peer-reviewed journals.

Other than English, Dr Verstraete speaks Dutch, French and German fluently.
