Imsi achieve pregnancy
Select the healthiest sperm with IMSI
Intra-cytoplasmic morphologically selected sperm injection or IMSI is a new technique we use to select sperm that are most likely to result in a successful pregnancy.
Introduction
Is IMSI right for me?
Sperm quality and mobility is just as important to a successful IVF cycle as the egg. Fortunately, there are now a wide variety of techniques available to help support your dream of parenthood – and one of them is IMSI. Although it doesn’t increase the fertilisation rate using an Intra-Cytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI) or the outcome, it can help lower the chance of a miscarriage caused by a genetic problem.
Statistics at Harley Street
We’ve helped many partners, individuals and LBGTQ+ couples start their family since we opened our clinic in 2010 and we have some of the highest success rates for IVF in the country.
The IMSI process and what to expect
Step 1: Talk to your doctor
We put every patient on the best possible treatment plan with the highest chance of success. As IMSI is a supplement to other fertility treatments like IVF, the first step will be a discussion between you and your doctor about whether the procedure is beneficial for you.
Step 2: Under the microscope
We’ll examine your sperm using a high magnification microscope, which is almost 6000x more powerful than a normal ICSI microscope. It means we can choose the sperm that appear to be the healthiest.
Step 3: Sperm selection
Your embryologist is looking for sperm that are the correct shape and size and with minimal vacuolisation (spaces) in the head, as this is associated with poor DNA arrangement. Those that meet these criteria should have a superior genetic quality.
Step 4: Sperm injection using ICSI
The healthy sperm will then be injected directly into an egg for fertilisation using ICSI ready for transfer and implantation with IVF.
